DataView - designed for mobility and collaboration
A quick example from a DataView session...
Adjust the column widths on your local display and save the table to disk.
You can treat this as a local database table and perform simple operations including search, sort, insert, update, delete on rows and encrypt/decrypt, sum(), avg(), count(), min(), max() on columns.
You can open a single record in form view by clicking on the left hand row button of the table display. From here you can expand text fields and view files.
You can open a file associated with a record by right clicking on the filename. DataView will search for helper applicaitons to open the file in a new window.
When DataView downloads a table or imports a data file from another source it creates internal columns that track changes made by the local user. Suppose another user in your realm modified their copy of photos and selected Remote->Upload to send them to the master database on the server.
You can merge their changes with your own data by running Remote->Merge. The server will send back records that have been added, modified or removed since the last time you ran Merge and saved it. In the example below, server rows are on the left and your rows are on the right. Arrow buttons are turned on when there is a difference and allow you to move values one direction or the other. The sever timestamp however can only be moved one direction.
A few other highlightsYou can select a user mode that doesn't intimidate the intended user.
DataView can import data from a spreadsheet or database that will export csv, tab delimted or quoted field data files. Here is one from a spreadsheet.
DataView can work with multiple tables linked in a one to many relationship. Here is an example: each machine record has multiple components.
There is a lot more to talk about including encryption, file uploading and downloading, setup, using a local database etc. Check the FAQ and the Help Docs (from a previous version) for more information. New docs are on the way. Updated: 3/20/2005 |
